The Garifuna people bear in their culture all the history of the West Indies, from 'discovery' or invasion by Europeans, via slavery and resistance to a present development in relative peace.
As a people of mixed origins, descendants of escaped slaves and Arawak indians, they have also incorporated other Caribbean sounds like Soca, Calypso, Nyabinghi drumming and Reggae and from all this have made something unique.
The Original Turtleshell Band come from Belize, in Central America, they are Rastas and guardians of their musical heritage, living off their own production and making their own musical instruments in the traditional way.
Their music speaks of their ancestors, faith in Jah, their love for their surroundings, the trees for the drums, the river and the sea for the turtles, and in their native garifuna language, preciously safeguarded,
they will make you want to go to Belize and dance the 'Punta' !




Le peuple Garifuna porte l'histoire de l'invasion du Nouveau Monde jusqu'à nos jours. Esclaves africains jamais asservis et réfugiés chez
les Indiens Carib, ils ont résisté ensemble, fuyant d'îles en îles jusqu'en Amérique centrale.
Les Original Turtle Shell Band viennent du Bélize, ils sont Rastas et gardiens de la culture Garifuna. Ils vivent de leur ferme et de leur musique, fabriquent leurs instruments pour perpétuer un style musical unique né de l'histoire d'un peuple libre et rebelle.
Ce mélange de souches indiennes et africaines vous rappellera par moments certains sons de la Caraïbe comme la socca, le calypso, le reggae bien sur et surtout le nyabinghi jamaïcain.
Ce disque a été enregistré à Paris, avec Madioko (Isaak & Dany'o) .
Tous les éléments sont réunis : l'esprit des ancêtres, la foi en Jah, les
tambours, la rivière, les tortues, la mer et ses coquillages, la langue Garifuna... Il ne vous reste plus qu'à partir au Bélize pour apprendre à danser la Punta !
